Well after a long break from blogging I think it’s time I try to jump back into it…. again. In the past I have found blogging to be not such a fun thing to do. Sometimes it even borders on being a chore. And that’s how I felt about it for the past few years. Tried to start up again about a year ago after we moved across the country. But I just couldn’t seem to bring myself to dedicating the time to it. So I’m going to give it another go. Maybe this time it’ll stick and I’ll stay with it again.
Line Weaving Forums Reopened
In an effort to get things moving again, I re-opened our Line Weaving forums. And started running weekly challenges again too. I’ve been posting one of our beloved MOJO pattern challenges on Sundays or Mondays. With these challenges we simply use the pattern prompts to create whatever we want based on the patterns assigned to that week. This week our MOJO challenge was based on a larger mix of patterns than usual. We used, Pipes by Lizzie Maine, Zin by Linda Farmer, Frizzed by HElana, Vache 1 by Genevieve Crabe, and Bysomnus by Milde Weiss.
I don’t always get my MOJOs accomplished during the week they are posted, however this week I managed to get two started and only one finished…. so far. Here’s the one I managed to get posted already. Some whimsical pipe works here. Fat in places, skinny in others, and caddywompus here and there. Just like me. LOL
I was going for a similar look to the fragmented windows that seems to be somewhat trendy these days. Although I used full patterns rather than fragments or pattern seeds for my fillers. It’s a fun little pop of silliness in one of my sketchbooks.
Weekend Weaver Creative Challenges
Long about Friday or Saturday I’ve been adding a new “Weakend Weaver” challenge for our forum members to enjoy. These creative play dates are based on composition, form, color, media, substrates, fresh ideas, templates, and all sorts of fun stuff. Artists are encouraged to accomplish the challenge before the next Weekend Weaver Challenge is posted. But if it takes you a bit longer – that’s okay too. The goal of the challenge is to just have fun with it and maybe stretch your creativity a bit further as you go!
Orbital Break
Lately it has not been unusual for me to be in the mood to work in the round with my drawings. Sometimes creating mandalas, or gems, and sometimes just playing with patterning in large size orbs. So for the weekend weaver challenge that I posted in our forums today, I’m encouraging our members to use a large size orb to work some patterns into. But for a twist of fun – we’re leaving a section of the orb broken open. Then we’ll have something oozing out, growing into/or out of, or just have a creative entry for the viewers eyes to mosey into their orb.
I’ve got several of these type creations playing in my head. And here are a few I posted in the forum gallery for our members to see and maybe get a bit of inspiration from.
If you’re interested in joining in on any of our weekly challenges, just pop on over to the Line Weaving forums, read the guidance in our Member Challenges discussion string. We’d love to have more participants playing along!
More Fun to Follow
My creative endeavors haven’t faltered too much during my absence from the blogging world. I still draw almost daily. I teach a variety of art and crafting classes at the local community center weekly. And my studio is filled with creativity play messiness most any day of the week. Most of my card making is currently on hold as I have plenty in inventory to meet my personal needs. I’ve been busy getting vendors for our annual craft fair. Up to 112 vendors now and I only have about a dozen booths still left to fill!
I’ll attempt to write again soon and share some photos of creative projects too. Until then – I hope you have a wonderfully creative week!
Cheers,
~Cindy
Me again! Can you explain to me how to link my orbital break piece to the right place? I will be posting it in my blog when I complete it. I have read the directions, but I may need remedial work, lol. Thanks.
Hello there Cathy. Glad to see you’re going to play around with the Orbital Break challenge! It’s a fun one to play with. Once you get ‘er done – If you’d like to share a link to your blog from here just come back to this message and reply with a link to where you put it on your site. If you’d like to share it in the Line Weaving forum gallery (and I hope you do): log into the forum; click to the gallery, click the “add picture” button and walk through the upload process. Looking forward to seeing what you have to share. Your line work is always worth viewing! 😀
Thank you! I am almost finished with the challenges!
I hope I haven’t entered this twice, if so forgive me. http://penstrokesbycathy.blogspot.com/2018/07/yawn-yawn.html
Your challenge piece looks great, Cathy! Thanks for playing along with us.
Hi, Cindy. It was nice to see this post in my email again. It rekindled my interest in the Line Weaving forums and I popped over there and spent a good bit of time noodling around. One thing that caught my eye was the Tea with Friends collaborative project. Is this something that could ever be resurrected again? What a great project idea. I’m sure it was a lot of effort on your part. I belong to a group that meets 5x a year and would love to share this with them.
Thanks for all you do.
Blessings to you.
Hi and thanks for stopping in! Ah yes, the Tea with Friends swaps we did were a lot of fun. They were so popular that we did them two different years even. I don’t believe we’ll be doing them again anytime soon. I might have an old copy of the CVG file I used to cut the book pages though. I’m not 100% sure if I still have it, but I’ll look if you’re interested. Just drop me an email and let me know. Blessings to you as well!
Hi, Cindy. That would be great if you did find it. I’d love to try it.
Thanks so much.
hi Cindy so glad to see you are back here again; I too sometimes see blogging as a chore .Not that i don’t like it , but it absorbs so much of my limited drawing time. and i still have a full-time job to do.
But i can tell anyone we have great fun at the forums since lineweaving.com/forums is back online. Thank you so much for all your efforts to stimulate our creativity. And it works 🙂
Welcome back! I enjoyed your blog of past days and missed you when you disappeared! I also am excited to see some new places for challenges. I have lots of time now that I am (blissfully) retired and so that is great news.
Wahoo! Congrats on your retirement. I hope you’ll join us for creative challenges and such. The more the merrier. 😀
I loved seeing this pop up in my feed reader this morning. I love your approach to creativity, and have missed your blog posts. I will try to dust off my forum I’d and log in today. Unfortunately, I am currently waiting on our new house to be built to have a craft room again. We sold our house in May and are depending on the kindness of family and friends for housing at present. However, line weaving supplies are cheap so I may go out and get some.
OMG – Your path in life sounds like it mirrors our last few years. We sold our house in Wyoming. While we were having our house built in Nevada, we were relying on friends and family for lodging as well. It was a tough couple of years not having a place of my own to play in and then getting adjusted to our new community. After we moved into our new house, it took several months later before my new (much smaller) creative studio was completed. Pattern Drawing was therapeutic for me during these transitions.
Thanks for stopping in. And best of luck to you during your travels and with your new house build too!
Cindy, it was nice to see this pop up in my email today…hope you enjoy blogging this time around!
June
Thanks for stopping in for a visit, June. I’m feeling optimistic about blogging this go around. 😉
